Shutter Speeeeeeeeed.

Okay here is the next catching up session... ( I want more hours in the day please! ) .

Shutter Speed - Okay so I have been having some problems with this task. I thought I understood it, so I started clicking away with the camera...then I found out that I couldn't really get the hang of it. So with a little chat with Marie I think I half understand what to do. I just have problems with matching the F number so the two work together. Working with Manual scares me a little, but I am persistant!

I have tried to get some fast and slow Shutter Speed pictures so you can tell the difference between the two. As the course progresses I'll obviously add more pictures but here is a taster. Also I have edited here and there by changing the Monochrome or intencifying the colours etc...

I managed to catch a thunderstorm whilst I was in Miami - One of the most exciting ones I'd ever witnessed. I may even have been a little scared. I started to experiment with the Shutter speed and although unfortunately I didn't capture the Fork Lightning, I managed to use a fast Shutter Speed to freeze the Sheet Lightning. Here is the difference between a fraction of a second...

Composition... (Experimenting around).

This week I've been trying to frantically catch up with the weeks and topics that I have unfortunately missed. My Blog may be in a different order due to this, but I fully intend for it to make sense. So here I am, choosing to do compostion first .

So far I have learnt that the different aspects that all seem to make up the composition are: Lines, Patterns, Textures, Balance, A Frame Within A Frame, Shadows, Reflections, Focus, Colour, Angles ( high, low, tilted), Distance and The Rule Of Thirds. There are many layers to composing a good picture so I tried to brainstorm my ideas before I experimented with my new found obsession...My Camera! I made a list of places to visit in my car and a list of objects that came to mind for texture, patterns, reflections etc. The only aspect that I was a little unfamiliar with was The Rule Of Thirds. So I spent a little time researching this on the internet and I think I understand it....Maybe.

Having a new job, I have been trying to get used to my new shifts which means I havent finished taking all the different aspects yet as time is limited and it seems to take forever for the photos to load up onto my Blog ( which I'm trying to resolve). So I am going to have to add some now and then add some later on...

Here goes....

Catch up!

Okay it appears having a holiday has put me behind a few weeks... although I did turn into a snap happy freak whilst venturing across America. Luckily, I met some camera buff at the airport on my way and he advised me on some good camera magazines for the journey. Having just bought a new camera (Nikon D3100), it gave me a chance to explore and get used to its settings as I was completely ignorant about the workings of my camera.

I played around considerably with the ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed. As I missed the Shutter Speed Lecture I kind of just experimented and see where it got me. I played around with water droplets one whole afternoon to see if I could sharpen each water droplet by increasing the shutter speed and for a first time effort I think I did Okay. We also witnessed some thunderstorms, but I was only able to capture the sheet lightning even though I was obsessively clicking away to capture the fork lightning. (I may use some of these pictures for the mini tasks that I have missed).

I enjoyed taking pictures at dawn, evening and night as the colours outside help to create an atmospheric picture (majority of the time without editing). I seem to have problems with taking pictures in the day as they always come out quite plain and boring...unless I edit them.

Anyway, I am going to spend the next few weeks catching up and researching some photographers for my assignment which is on Landscape. More to come on that in a short while....
